Travelling north from Tanunda with the sun finally streaming into the windscreen there was hope for a great day of footy and an opportunity to warm the bones, however after getting out of the block swell with the younger sides, the football along with the weather became more gloomy as it progressed. The results proved you reap what you sow….
What a disappointing day for the A grade, missing the perfect chance to shore up our spot in the top four. We showed in the third quarter how well we can play, but the rest of the match was pretty ordinary. On a positive note, Leigh Westhoff played one of his best games for the year after more bad luck with injuries and his brother Matt was also good. Ryan Bignell showed he still has plenty left in the tank and skipper Nick Schmidt led from the front. Well done to Dylan Abinett on his first senior game for a fair while and to Dion Dutschke on his debut.
The Reserves were comprehensively beaten by 53 points by a Kapunda outfit that outperformed us in all facets of football. There could be a lot of excuses made for not winning the game but none for an insipid performance where very few appeared to be hungry for the contest. The TFC expects and will always acknowledge 100% effort regardless of the result. We now have to wait for a week to rectify this and be able to put this game behind us. A shining light in regard to effort was Ryan Jarvis who kicked 2 goals and won his position in the ruck.
The Under 17 boys were issued the Challenge this week against a side that was 1 position above us on the ladder and had beaten us on our home turf in the first encounter, the Challenge was to play as a United Team, working together, being accountable for one another and to get that ultimate enjoyment out of a game of Footy and that is to win. We were definitely challenged with 3 of our tallest players out of the side before the ball was even bounced, however with some “Coaching wisdom” and pure guts and determination from the players they came away with a win. Special mentions with hard gutsy efforts all day went to Brayden Dalby, Jayden Hage and Jett De Reuiter playing thru the middle and across they half back line. Ryan Creece, Will Loffler and Jay Rohrlach also deserve a mention with their run and carry thru the middle of the ground (with the Coach looking and hoping for a little more consistency). Best Players Liam Ide (Played Ruck all day with no change and dominated around the ground) Austin Nankerville (Stood up this week, showed lots of defensive skill and pressure), Ben Biagi (Excellent run thru the middle and in the Forward line), Paul Gursansky (Great on ball and Defensive work) and Dakota Hunt (Good hard work in the Forward Line, providing Excellent opportunity and keeping the ball inside 50). Well done to all Players
This week the Under 15’s came up against Kapunda, and the starting line up a little different. This games was a good chance to play some boys in some different positions. The ball was in Tanunda’s forward line for the majority of the first half. After rushed behinds and a good defence by Kapunda, Tanunda were 5-9 at half time. The second half was saw the back lines/forward lines switch positions which allowed defenders to have shots on goal. Final score was Tanunda 9.15 to Kapunda 0.1. Wishing good luck James Madden, Jez McLennan, Ryan Falkenberg & Nic Burton who are playing in the CDFC U15’s country team at the state championships this week.
The Under 13 Black team continued their good form with a very even team effort scoring 9-5 to 5-1. There were 9 individual goal scorers and all of the boys are improving as the season progresses. Quite a few of the lads also played in atrocious conditions at Williamstown oval for the White team on Friday night due to school holiday absentees and to back up so well again on Saturday morning was a credit to their fitness and attitude. Well done boys and keep up the good work.
A frosty reception is all that was on offer in Williamstown on Friday night for our young Under 11 Black Magpies with Barossa White handing out a four quarter lesson in disciplined football.
Tanunda played well as a team but couldn’t convert their effort into goals and had to contend with a strong competitor determined to make a Friday night in the rain a winning one. Best Players
Kobi Schulz, Louie McLennan, Nick Holmes, Kai Dunstan
We are hosting Barossa District this week with a must win scenario for all grades, so the need to be switched on and ready is imperative, get out to training and dig in for a big week.
