Magpie Chatter ~ Round 14

In what was always expected to be a tough day the Tanunda lads in most of the games did themselves proud. With the day starting off with a bruising under 13’s encounter the scene was set.
Our Under 15’s performed superbly to defeat the top of the table Donnybrooks and sends a clear message to the rest of this competition that they are not to be taken lightly. A good look into the future of footy at Tanunda. The Senior colts were given a real lesson in hard attacking football and came up well short. In the seniors the B’s showed plenty but could not convert opportunities allowing the hard running and fierce Willaston to score multiple goals before the young “pies side won the final quarter convincingly.
Our A Grade were always going to do it hard, however right from the start there was no way that they were going to get pushed over. Some passages of play were fantastic and the half time scores being only a couple of goals apart was testament to this. Experience and sheer size played a large part in the Willaston side opening up the margin and at lemons it was pride being played for. To the boys credit they never gave up, Tom Schiller lead from the front with elite running and pressure, Parker Neldner resumed hostilities with Baker and the defence of Grocke, Gann, Westhoff et al were gallant. In the end it was an not unexpected loss, however there were positives to come from it from the younger guys stepping up and the experienced lads showing that they can still drive forward for greater success. Our thoughts go to young Willaston forward Tosold, we wish you all the best for the rest of the season and your recovery.
As mentioned the B’s went down, but not without a fight and the highlights being the return to top form of Dylan Wagner, Blackborough continuing to develop and find a niche in defence and on the ball and the experience of Ey showing great body and hardness at the contest. Nat Gue continues to go where angels fear to tread and gareth Davis showed silky skills in setting up goals from the centre. More effort on the track and the finals can be achieved.
Senior Colts this week faced another Challenge in top of the table Willaston, with a brilliant finish to last week’s Game all were positive of the opportunity to take it up against another top side. However this was not to be the case, Tanunda were no match for the Willaston Skill, effort and Much bigger bodied Willaston, the Tanunda boys lacked self-belief, manning up and all out skill against a very classy, quality and hard working side, the Tanunda boys did try hard, however were did not play to what they are capable of. Best Players: Jayden Hage, Liam Ide, Paul Gursansky, Jett De-Ruiter, Eddy Laucke and Ryan Creece
Another fantastic game this week by the U15 lads – they were keen & switched on right from the first bounce and kept Willaston goal less in the first quarter! Tanunda’s aggressive attack on the football was fantastic. Excellent running play and strong leads gave Tanunda many scoring opportunities in the second & third quarters. Defense worked hard all day and stopped many of Willaston scoring opportunities. Their pressure late in the last quarter was fantastic.Another great win against a top side – let’s keep this momentum going.
The Tanunda Black U 13 team travelled to the Donnybrooks oval on Saturday morning and felt like they were in the land of the Giants when they saw the size of some of the Willaston players.
The boys battled hard and kept their heads up throughout the tough contest against a stronger and more physically imposing opponent. Liam Ellis was relentless with his determination providing a fine example of how to go about it. Henry Brooks showed his usual dash and worked hard in the ruck. The second half saw a good reward for effort as the scoring against us was more contained through the determined efforts of the team. The defeat wasn’t great but the effort of our boys could not be questioned.
A difficult night for the Tanunda Under 9 white boys at Willaston, we started well playing good team football. The boys lost some focus throughout the game but continued to try right until the end. Plenty to work on at training, awards went to Harvey Fechner, Balin Gregory, Bailey Kirk, Jack Underwood & Ryan Ellis
Then the attention turned to the social outlets, and what a weekend…Red and Rump was a great success, thanks to the netball ladies for their efforts, Chef Shane great steaks and DJ Tommy what a set! Sunday night saw Sam Newman and Justin Westhoff at our annual Sportsmans evening with 200 supporters and sponsors present enjoying the atmosphere and getting behind the efforts of the committee to show how deep the Tanunda Football community go. Thanks to Langmeil for hosting, Ralph and Barossa Sound and Vision for lighting and mikes, Coates Hire for the heaters and the TFC Committee for their efforts.
Next weekend against Nuriootpa is a must win for all grades, as our Sponsors Day this is also a key day in our diary so mark it down and we will see you at the game as we play for the George Heath Cup. Go you Magpies!
