Following the rout at Freeling, the game day at O’b Park sponsored by Jarvis Isuzu Ute, against Gawler Centrals was going to be a very different proposition. In front of the many Ladies gathered for the “Pink” Day, raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation we had never lost in the pink jumper, and justifiably the lads were confident of making this keep on happening.
The A grade came up against an undefeated Centrals team and were keen to continue their good form from last week. The game opened at a ferocious pace with Matt Underwood scoring a major for the Maggies within the first minute which was immediately followed by a Centrals conversion. This set the scene for a first half of high quality footy with the Tanunda boys taking a slim 3 point lead into the main break. Disappointingly, the second half was dominated by Centrals. Tanunda managed just one major for the rest of the game and allowed the opposition to break open the game. For the Pies, Luke Snowden continued his good form across half back and it was a terrific effort by young Sam Brooks to play a shutdown role on a quality opponent. Nick Schmidt and Nathan Peterson-Gray battled hard all day and were well supported by Jake Snowden and Ryan Bignell.
In the Reserves a strong magpies took on the highly regarded Centrals in a real test. The game was a fast paced and physical contest with no quarter given. Half time say only 7 points in the game, and after an unnecessary over the boundary altercation that saw many players, including some off the bench, involved in a melee, which was avoidable. Following the half time, the Magpies just didn’t come out of the box to play and the Gawler tigers then piled on 7 goals to one for the half. Better performers were young Liam Birchard, R Jarvis, W Mudge, S Gregory, J Thompson and best was T Smith.
The 17s started strongly and battled valiantly throughout but finally went down by the smallest possible margin. Improved disposal under pressure and practice in front of goals will make the difference and the boys will be determined to get back on the winners list this week. Patrick Mudge and Brett Dowse left nothing in the tank, combining well with Quinn Gladigau who dominated the ruck and continues to improve with each game. Will Loffler again led by example, tackling, spoiling and rebounding from half back. The back six group held firm against taller opposition and Ethan Liersch was typically (junk-yard) dogged in defence.
The Under 15 boys had a home game to host Gawler central and again proved too strong for the visitors
Max Fraser is one of our first year players that has been unavailable due to injury had a great day out licking 4 goals. Jonah Whitelum was again great in the middle backed by Henry brooks and Hugh smart
The back 6 proved to be too strong in defence and the boys ran away with the game in the end to be clear winners. Will Parker and Jayden Birchard both played really well and deserve a special mention
Next week is going to be a step up but the boys will be up to the challenge against Willaston. All are welcome to travel and see another great game of footy
The U9 White’s turned up to play Gawler Centrals Gold on a balmy Friday night at home. After not having their listening ears on at training, they stood up to the task ahead and showed some great team football demonstrating some strong marks taken and improved hand-balling techniques on display. Keep up the good work kids! Awards went to Max Fechner for showing a hunger for the ball, Darcy Kirk for taking a big hit and getting back on the park, and first year player, Thomas Menzel.
The Black Under 9’s boys played there first Friday night match in superb conditions at their home ground.
Gawler central had 20 players so all our boys were able to get a full game. It was a great contest with lots of big kicking and some great overhead marking. Travis and Herb were impressed with the boys skills and attacking of the ball.
The best on ground awards went to Tanner Verhees and Billy Schuster who both put in four quarters of great football.
We travel to Willaston this week and again a danger game for the club. We need to all be prepared to step onto the park as a united and focussed club, with nothing short of victory being accepted.
Congratulations to the Ladies day organisers, another successful day with over $5500 raised.
