Magpie Chatter Round 8 v Angaston

Heading to Angaston is always a challenge however the Magpie faithful were up to the task, with a great set of numbers coming from the results!

The A grade were again keen to continue its good form from the previous few weeks.  For the boys, it was important also to make sure Ryan Bignell was to celebrate his 200th senior game in style.  The first quarter was an even contest and many were predicting a traditional, close in battle that is often encountered in a Tanunda versus Angaston clash.  It didn’t take long however for the Pies to exert their force on the panthers and in the second, finishing at the long break with a four goal lead.  From there on, the Magpies began dominating the clearances and our forwards took advantage of the first opportunities being presented. With the defence again shutting down their direct opponents the Pies ran out the game with a solid 52 point win.

Angus Kurtze was brilliant in the ruck and Nathan Peterson Grey and Nick Schmidt racked up possessions to give plenty of drive around the stoppages. The Snowden brothers, Jake and Luke were brilliant up forward and finished with 9 goals between them.   Ryan Bignell again hit packs hard and gave the boys a spark when they needed it. Congratulations Biggs on your 200th.

The Reserves were keen to respond positively after the disappointment of the previous week, however Angaston were not going to take it lying down. An even first quarter set the tone, however the pies cam e on strong in the following three quarters to kick 11 goals to one, in an exciting and determined display. S Gregory continues to find plenty of the ball and goals, R Jarvis starting to really command at centre half forward and a key return in D Ellis gave focus.

Nick Norman dominated through the middle with Kane Irvine making a great return and Joel Griffiths finding form the season is starting to come together nicely.

The Senior colts were keen to continue their good form and had it not been for poor kicking would have blown the opposition apart in the first quarter. Dominance around the ground meant that the running style was able to prevail. Will Loffler dominated open play in a consistent display, with Ben Biagi, Eddie Laucke and Jack May delivering drive. The defensive back 6 held very well with C Simpson, T Eggleton and E Leirsch taking telling marks and rebounding any forward movements. A solid 8 goal win was well deserved.

The under 15 boys set off to Angaston with a good squad this week. The first quarter got off to a slow start and to Angaston’s credit kept the young magpies to a single goal.
This kicked up a stern response from the coach and the boys kicked into gear for the next 3 quarters with solid footy and good teamwork.
Henry Brooks is starting to hit the targets ahead on the field. It’s a credit to him starting to take a breath and look at options. Well done and he was definitely best on ground this week
Benson Heintze was also very good, being hard to crack anywhere on the ground and Lachlan Baumann keeps kicking goals. If anyone wants to see some up and coming players next week, take notice of Young Max Fraser and Jackson Docherty. Both were superb in the slippery conditions on the visitors oval and provided good support to the team all day. Thanks to Jed Harbermann and Todd Falkenberg for playing with Angaston and assisting with numbers. Next week the boys take on Barossa District at home. The coach is ready to step the boys up again to the OB park grass at Tanunda and we all know it will be a good challenge. Come down early and watch another cracking game from a team that will be contenders in finals footy

A great team effort by all players saw the Under13 Whites claw back a 2 goal deficit at quarter time to be 3 points ahead at half time.Solid defence and discipline in the back line allowed individuals in the forward line to shine in the third quarter to post a 2 goal lead.Gritty determination all round the ground and willingness to chase hard until the end saw us run the game out well. Best:- Louie McLennan; Sam Noack; Josh Hoklas; Finn Reed; Harmon Vears; Jacob Hooper.Goal Kickers: Finn Reed 5; Louie McLennan; Jake Noack

Tanunda black under 11 played Angaston blue on a wet and cold Friday night. The coach asked for the boys to play wet weather football, front spot & keep your feet, and that’s just what they did. Once again the boys continue to show off their skills, pin point kicking, great marking & superb handpassing. The boys continue to impress with their team focused game, well done boys. The Under 9 Black team played the 730pm time slot against Angaston with very wet conditions.

Again this week we were able to let all our players onto the field without rotating and a couple of the Angaston boys played on our team to even up the numbers.

The boys skills adapted well in the wet with lots of great kicking in from the backlines.

Our best players this week were Archie Koch and Sid McCarthy who both played a great game.

The U9 Whites turned up to Angaston on a cold and very wet night to face Angaston White.  The boys played excellent wet weather football with short kicks and chest marks the order of the day. A great performance made it all worthy of breaking out the thermals, gum boots and umbrellas.
