At some stage of the season we all felt there would be a time where things started to click, and Saturday showed this happening. New coaches and players take time to gel, and for the first time in a few years we were able to come home with a clean sweep. Thanks to Freeling for a great hit out in all grades, and we now look forward to hosting Angaston to fight for the Heidenreich – Klienig Cup.
The A grade had a comfortable win after an early scare, with the boys taking a little while to get going. Once we did fire there were some good passages of play, with Jordan Wilson-King again good. He is improving every week and looks to be getting close to his best, while Jason Baylis made a successful return from a calf injury and was impressive.
Parker Neldner did a top job in a run with role and Sam Agars kicked five goals.
The Reserves were again searching for some numbers with late withdrawals and unavailable players, however coach Samain was confident of the talent of the park delivering the desired result. A tight first half saw the lads up by 4 points, however a 5 goal third term saw the team pull away for a much needed win. Ryan Owen was instrumental in repelling the ball and generating run off the half back line, Damien Wallace is having a great year, and Big Guns Jarvis was a key focal point. Special mentions to B Dalby and S Dunn up from Senior Colts and delivered a great effort. Goals B Lockett, D Abinett, J Thompson, J Marshall 2, B Dalby, T Fenton, R Jarvis 1 Best: R Owen, R Jarvis, B Lockett, J Marshall, S Dunn, D Wallace.
Senior Colts this week faced Feeling, both teams with same results on the Premiership Table, the boys were given the Challenge at the start of the game to show the Barossa and Light and our own critics that we as a team were capable of a win and to start our season again from this day. The boys started slowly, however after half time come out with a new lease of life, kicking 7 goals in the 3rd quarter, Brayden Dalby again had the ball on a string giving us every opportunity around the ground, DK, Aussie, Jay lifted their intensity with excellent run thru the middle delivering to our forward line with precision, with our forward line majoring at any given opportunity, with an inside 50 soring rate of 90%. Goals scores for the day, Ricky Liddell – 4, Jay Rohlach and B Biagi – 3 each, J Brimer and W Loffler – 2 each, and singles to Paul Gursansky, D Hunt and E Laucke. Best Players – J DeRuiter, Liam Ide, B Biagi, J Hage and D Hunt.
The Under 15’s team started the 1st quarter well with great running and disciplined team play into the forward line to set up a 5 goal quarter and the backline repelling any attack that Freeling made.
The start of the second 2nd quarter found our defence put under pressure by Freeling as they started to win the ball out of the middle, but the boys rallied and held them to only 2 goals for the quarter.
The 3rd and 4th quarters developed into a hard slogging match as the ball began to get wet and heavy and legs began to tire with all the running we were doing on the heavy ground. But the strong work of the backline and some great passages of hard running and overlapping football into the forward line saw us get home 9-7 to 4-2.
In wintery conditions the Under 13 Black boys dominated the contest having 23 shots to 2. Inaccurate kicking was the only blemish with the score being 4 -19 to 1-1. Harry Collins kicked 2 goals with Max Fraser and Jonah Whitelum getting the others. With the changing availability of numbers players from the white team have helped out when required which has enhanced the team’s performance. The boys in the black team continue to learn and improve on a weekly basis with more good results to come in the remainder of the season.
The Under 13 White boys travelled to Freeling on Saturday morning and provided spectators with a great brand of team footy. The skills on displayed were a credit to all the hard work the boys have been putting in at training each week. Notable highlights this week were Ben Wilson’s left foot snap in the pocket and 5 goals from Jonah Whitelum. Great team effort from all players.
We head back to O’B Park for the next two weeks with critical games, celebrating the 10th Year of the Heidenriech – Klienig Cup will add some spice for the match this week.
Upcoming events: July 19th Red and Rump night, tickets available soon.
